About the Event
Is Taiji Quan practice the reason for your longevity?
Not directly. Taji Quan helps cultivate a relaxed spirit. Having a relaxed spirit is the secret of longevity.
-Interview with 105 year old Taiji Quan Master Wu Tu-Nan
On Thursday September 22nd, in acknowledgement of the Fall Equinox, we begin a new cycle of Qi Gong. This season we're learning the Yin Yang Sheng Jiang Kai He Gong, or In Out Ascending Descending Opening and Closing Qi Gong. I'm calling this form the Song of Autumn, as it is a movement that serves to harmonize all levels of being; physical, mental and emotional. As we move into longer nights and shorter days in the Northern Hemisphere, this form helps settle the spirit and boost your immunity. The postures and breath are coordinated rhythmically, and there is a lot of opening through the chest, excellent for lung and breast health. If you have arm pain or weakness, this form can help strengthen these areas. It's a practice that can benefit anyone - well suited for insomnia, hypertension, anxiety and depression. We'll be practicing this form for 12 weeks, from 9/22 - 12/8, every Thursday at 9 AM EST. If you'd like to join but can't make the time, please email me and you'll receive a recorded session with a contribution of $20 per session.
